This site restoration was a pure labor of love. A research website hosting by Newcastle University in Australia evidently had to be taken down because nobody was able to keep it running.  In May of 2025 a distress call went out over an academic group on Facebook, and a member pinged me wondering if maybe I could help.

I was able to get the archived files and database from the university, and while the site was very old (probably built somewhere between 2007 and 2010) and had some seriously old-school coding, I was able to get it up and running well enough to send an updated archive back.  Last I heard they were still looking for funding and an organization to maintain the site moving forward.

I loved working on this project!  It fits perfectly with my original motivation for getting into building websites: “someone with something to say and someone to say it to.”  The number of Charlotte Yonge fans might be fairly small, but they’d been relying on the website for academic research in the field of 19th Century literature, arts, and letters.

This was also a classic example of the kind of site I enjoy working on — old, creaky, even eccentric by todays standards but still important and useful to its audience.
