According to the leading website profiling site BuiltWith.com, more than 40% of all ecommerce sites are now running WordPress with the popular WooCommerce ecommerce plugin.

WooCommerce itself is a free plugin, and while its development is supported by a wide array of premium (you have to pay for them) plugins, the core plugin is still plenty capable.
